COMFORT AND CONVENIENCE IN THE COUNTRY HOUSE   21st April 2017

Visiting country houses has become a popular leisure pursuit in the UK with visitors now interested in how the household and their servants lived and worked and not just the paintings  and furniture. During the 19th century many technological innovations, including gas and electric light, central heating, piped water supplies and sanitation became available. During the day you will hear why some landowners were keen innovators and others not, and look at the results of innovation via a range of houses open to the visiting public.
