Join National Gallery experts for a study day exploring the radical Victorian paintings of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Which paintings inspired them or shaped their views, and why? And just how Pre-Raphael were the Pre-Raphaelites really?
The study day will comprise of 5 talks that will explore the ideals of Millais, Holman Hunt and Rossetti as well as the later generation of Pre-Raphaelite artists including Burne-Jones and Waterhouse. We’ll discover how they responded to both the Early and High Renaissance paintings and more modern old masters that they saw in the gallery, and we’ll find some startling parallels!
